Former Raiders QB Arrested After Being Found Naked, High in Strangers Yard
Former Raiders first round pick Todd Marinovich is facing multiple drug charges today after being found naked and in possession of drugs in a strangers backyard.
Irvine Police reports show that Marinovich was allegedly seen Friday evening walking along a bike path unclothed and carrying a brown paper bag. A local resident contacted police after spotting Marinovich walking along the path.
“The caller stated that there was a naked person on Venta Spur Trail,” said Irvine police Commander Hallinan. “He was carrying the items in a brown bag.”
Marinovich was cited for trespassing, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. He has since been released , but faces yet another long road to recovery.
Even before starting at USC in 1989, Marinovich was a star in the state of California. He was a High School All-American in 1987, and was also a candidate for the 1990 Heisman Trophy. In 1990 he helped lead the Trojans to a Rose Bowl victory over Michigan.
Raiders owner Al Davis drafted Marinovich with the 24th overall pick, nine spots ahead of Hall of Famer Brett Favre the following year. Marinovich only spent two years with the Raiders, as drugs derailed his life on and off the football field.
In just eight career starts in the NFL, Marinovich threw eight touchdowns and nine interceptions. He later joined the CFL, and most recently played in the Arena League in 2000.
