Patriots coach Bill Belichick dealing with major injuries across the board

The key to any successful season is health. The New England Patriots are currently on the wrong side of that trend, reeling with multiple injuries on offense prior to the start of the NFL season.

Boston Globe reporter Jim McBride reports that three key players on the Patriots offense are dealing with big-time injuries, and each could miss the start of the season.

Running back Dion Lewis, who tore his ACL last season, will undergo a second knee surgery and is out indefinitely. Lewis started six games for the Patriots last season, providing help in both the backfield and as a receiver.

Starting right tackle Sebastian Vollmer will reportedly start the season on the injured reserve list, according to the Boston Globe. He entered camp on the physically unable to perform list with an undisclosed injury. He has started the majority of his career games, but has missed time with a broken leg and a concussion.

Second year guard Shaq Mason reportedly broke his hand, and will be out for an unknown period of time. Mason is listed as the teams back-up left guard, but has received snaps with the first team offense. The 22-year-old was the Patriots fourth round pick last year out of Georgia Tech.

The Mason injury hurts even more with guard Tre’ Jackson coming off of having his knee scoped. Jackson is currently on the PUP list, but could return for the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.

Tack on Tom Brady missing the start of the seasons with a suspension, and Danny Amendola looking to regain his health, and you have a battered Patriots offense. Regardless of injuries, coach Bill Belichick always finds diamonds in the rough who turn into superstars overnight.
