Factor #3: Colts pass rushing

The Colts were 22nd in the NFL in sacks with 35 and although that total is not inadequate, it doesn’t exactly establish anything for their front seven as well. Both Kendall Langford and Robert Mathis totaled seven sacks apiece to lead the team. Mathis is aging and Langford isn’t necessarily known for his pass rushing techniques. The team brought in Trent Cole in the 2015 offseason via free agency, but the 33-year-old only managed three sacks after totaling 85.5 sacks in ten seasons with the Eagles.

In other words, somebody has to get after the QB. Anybody?!??

Their 2016 seventh round pick Trevor Bates will get an opportunity to strike gold as will veteran pass rusher Erik Walden. Former Tennessee Volunteer Curt Maggitt is another name to watch and will be closely observed by the Colts coaching staff. Anything is almost needed at this point for the Colts as it seems the pass rushing department may be in deep waters in the 2016 season. The Hall-of-Fame showdown is the proper platform to truly impress the coaches.
