Redskins GM Punches Wall After Doctson Achillies Injury
Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan was seen sporting a heavy bandage on his left hand at Redskins training camp Friday
According to former Redskins tight end Chris Cooley on ESPN 980, McCloughan punched a wall when he received a call from the team doctor notifying him first round pick Josh Doctson injured his achillies tendon.
Cooley asked McCloughan what happened to his hand. Cooley recalled McCloughan saying “when I found out about Doctson – which they thought was going to be much worse, the Doctson injury, apparently it isn’t going to be as bad – I punched the wall.”
Redskins team officials do not believe the wide receivers injury is as dire as originally thought. Doctson was seen on the sidelines of Fridays practice participating in light catching drills, but not running routes or putting any strain on his lower body.
Doctson, who was drafted out of TCU, and Redskins head coach Jay Gruden discussed the injury after practice Friday.
Doctson was the third wide receiver drafted in 2016, going only behind Corey Coleman and Will Fuller. He had a career-high 14 touchdowns and 1300 receiving yards in his last collegiate season for the Horned Frogs.
Washington is expecting a lot from their rookie wide receiver, who has drawn comparisons to Bengals Pro Bowler A.J. Green. Veteran wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon are entering the final year of their deals, and quarterback Kirk Cousins is playing under the franchise tag.
Jay Gruden will begin his third season with the Redskins on Monday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 12.
