Oakland Raiders LB Aldon Smith Enters Rehab Facility
Troubled Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith is finally seeking help
Aldon Smith has constantly been in and out of the National Football League. He’s currently suspended for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, and hasn’t played a snap since November of last season.
Earlier in the week, a video stream surfaced on Periscope of a man smoking a hand-rolled cigarette. A woman in the background tells him he shouldn’t be videoing him doing that, to which the man replies “They don’t know it’s me. It’s not like I put ‘Aldon Smith.'”
Smith denied the man in the video was him, but denial has drawn severe speculation.

According to TMZ Sports, Aldon Smith has entered a treatment facility. While the exact type of treatment is unknown, the backlash from the video seems to have been the final straw.
Aldon Smith was originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the seventh overall in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Missouri. He was named First-Team All-Pro in 2012 after recording a career-high 19.5 sacks.
San Francisco cut Smith after he was arrested for a third time for DUI prior to the 2015 season. Smith was also investigated for a hit and run while with the 49ers. He was also arrested in 2013 after telling TSA agents he had a bomb at Los Angeles International Airport.
Smith has been suspended prior in his career for violating the NFL’s personal conduct and substance abuse policies. He has also entered rehab twice prior to his latest stint.
The linebacker has started up 37 games since being drafted in 2011, and only played nine games with the Raiders since being signed to a one-year deal worth $8 million in 2015.
He recently signed a two-year deal with Oakland, despite being suspended for the entire season following his hit-and-run arrest.
Oakland starts their season on September 11 in New Orleans.
