Former Arizona Cardinal Darnell Dockett is expected to hang ’em up

Former Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett is expected to retire Monday, according to multiple news outlets. He is expected to sign a one-day contract with the Cardinals prior officially retiring.

The 35-year-old was recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the 2014 training camp. He was released by the Cardinals the following offseason, and is among the top pass rushers in franchise history.

Dockett has not played an NFL snap since the 2013 season concluded. He was signed by the San Francisco 49ers in 2014, but was cut in training camp.

Dockett was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft out of Florida State. He ranks seventh in Cardinals history in sacks with 40.5, nine of which came in his first Pro Bowl season back in 2007. He would earn two additional Pro Bowl nods later in his 10 year career.

In 2008, Dockett sacked Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger a record three times in Super Bowl XLIII. Arizona would lose on a last-minute touchdown to Santonio Holmes, 27-23.

The following season, he was named a first-team All-Pro by Sporting News, and second-team All-Pro by the Associated Press.

A modern day iron man, Dockett played 158 games in his NFL career, and started all but two. He only missed two games in his NFL career. His career ends with 349 tackles, nine forced fumbles, four interceptions, and two touchdowns.
