Philadelphia Eagles Training Camp May Be Disrupted by DNC
High security could be a hassle for players, staff, and media this week
With the Democratic National Convention coming to Philadelphia, the Eagles are being forced to work around the national media and the extreme levels of security expected next week.
The DNC will be held at the Wells Fargo Center, which is the home of the Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers. All three of the major Philadelphia sports stadiums are located in one central location in south Philadelphia. The Eagles training center, the NovaCare Complex, is located just down the street, and will be opening up for training camp to rookies and select players on Monday.
The Wells Fargo Center is located in the bottom center of the map below, and the Eagles training complex is located in the upper left hand corner.
Police will have Pattison Ave. closed, meaning anyone needing to enter the sports complex for work and/or training camp will need to provide multiple pieces of identification.
Special team passes will be given to players, staff, and media who will be entering the complex. Additionally, a form of federal ID (drivers license, passport etc.) will be needed to enter Pattison Ave.

All of the Eagles rookies will be staying at the team hotel down the road, and will be bussed in together. They will begin training camp on Monday, along with quarterbacks Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, and rookie Carson Wentz. The remaining players will report on Wednesday, and the entire team will have its’ first full-team practice of the season Thursday; the final day of the DNC.
During the Andy Reid era, the Eagles used to practice at Lehigh University, approximately 80 minutes north of the sports complex. When Chip Kelly arrived in 2013, he nixed the long-held tradition in the name of efficiency. Instead of moving players and their equipment into a cramped university and dorm rooms, Kelly opted for the coziness of home.
With the increased amount of both national and international media closing in on the City of Brotherly Love this week, the Eagles just hope there will be a limited amount of distractions when they take the field for the first practice of the Doug Pederson era.
