Entering the 2016-2017 season, there might not be a more loaded position nationally than running back. Leonard Fournette, Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey all posses elite talent that will land them each a spot in the NFL. Barring a horrific knee injury last season, one more athlete should be added to that list: Nick Chubb. The Georgia back, who replaced current Rams star Todd Gurley, put up ridiculous numbers in his one and a half seasons of play. In 2014, Chubb put up 1547 yards (averaging 7.1 yards per carry) and 14 touchdowns. Last season, prior to hyper-extending his left knee against Tennessee, he amassed 747 yards and seven scores. Most notably, he ran for at least 120 yards in each of the five complete games that he played in. Chubb enters this campaign as a possible Heisman winner.

Strengths

Chubb possesses a unique blend of power, speed and elusiveness. At 220 pounds, he can run through defenders and fight for extra yardage. While not the fastest back, he can beat linebackers and reach the second level with ease. He is also able to move well side-to-side, allowing Chubb to make defenders miss.

Check out the above video from Chubb’s best game statistically. He put up 266 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries.

All of those traits allow Nick Chubb to be one of the most productive running backs in the country. He averages 7.6 yards per carry on 311 touches.

Weaknesses

The biggest concern with Chubb is his health. His knee injury may have looked worse than it anatomically was, but front offices will have a close eye on how he responds this season. Even if his knee is completely healed, the psychological effects of such a grotesque injury may have an impact on Chubb’s abilities.

Outlook

Depending on how well Chubb returns to action, he should be one of the top running back’s in the nation. He will be the focal point of Georgia’s offense and should be able to put up big numbers once again.

Chubb can work his way into the late first round of the draft, but will likely be a second-round selection following another strong campaign.
