Charles Tillman hangs up his cleats in video Monday night

Despite a strong finish to his career, injuries will be keeping Charles “Peanut” Tillman off the football field for good. The 35-year-old cornerback, who is coming off an ACL injury, posted a video of him hanging up his cleats and “punching out” for his career.

Tillman, who’s famous for punching the ball and forcing fumbles, is seen punching food, books, clothes, and other miscellaneous items out of people’s hands in a video posted Monday evening.

Charles Tillman is widely known for his time as a Chicago Bear, where he played for 12 out of his 13 NFL seasons. Chicago drafted Tillman with the 35th overall pick in 2003 out of LA-Lafayette, and he quickly became on of the most dominant defensive backs in Bears history.

“I just felt like it was time to do it. I’m going out on my own terms and I figured, ‘what the heck, Monday, July 18, I think I’ll do it today.'”

In 2012, Tillman tied Osi Umenyiora’s NFL record 10 forced fumbles in a season. He finishes with 44 in his 13 year career.

He played his final NFL season with the Carolina Panthers, but suffered a torn ACL prior to the Panthers post-season run.

Tillman received the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2013, in recognition for his charitable work off the field.

In terms of statistics, Charles Tillman is one of the top defensive players in Bears history. He is first in pick-sixes (8), pass deflections (134), and forced fumbles (42), third in interceptions (36), and fourth in tackles.

He also earned two Pro Bowl appearances over the course of his 13 year career in the NFL.

After the Bears opted not to bring Tillman back after the 2014 season, team chairman George H. McCaskey said “The Bears have been around for nearly a century and Charles Tillman will go down as one of the best to ever wear blue and orange.
