Buffalo Bills Kicking Tires On Surprise RB Solution
By Erik Lambert
Rex Ryan has never been afraid to take bold chances in order to make his teams better, and he’s doing that again with this Buffalo Bills move.
The team that had one of the better rushing attacks in the league last season is suddenly facing a lot of questions. LeSean McCoy narrowly avoided punishment for an off-the-field incident involving a bar fight. Charges weren’t pressed. However, backfield mate Karlos Williams wasn’t so lucky. He earned a four-game suspension from the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy.
If that weren’t bad enough, the Bills got dealt another body blow when their promising draft pick Jonathan Williams was arrested on suspicion of DWI. What once looked like a loaded depth chart at running back is now in danger of being depleted. Given how important it is to run the ball in that offense, the team knew a counter move was needed.
Their solution proved a surprising one.
"“NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Bills have targeted Reggie Bush to fill the void during Karlos Williams’ four-game suspension, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. The Bills put out an offer to Bush, but the running back is weighing his options and is in no rush to make decision, added Rapoport.”"
Reggie Bush has been dealing with injury problems the past two seasons. After rushing for over 1,000 yards in 2013, he missed five games with the Lions in 2014 and 11 games with the 49ers last year. During that span he’s averaged just 3.7 yards per carry. So it’s curious what the Buffalo Bills brass are thinking. He is 31-years old after all. Perhaps they feel a veteran presence is required, or maybe they really do think he’s got something left in the tank.
