Von Miller Agrees to Historic Contract with Denver Broncos
The Super Bowl champions have locked up their biggest star
A tedious negotiation between Von Miller and the Denver Broncos is finally complete. The outside linebacker has agreed to a six-year, $114,500,000 contract with the Denver Broncos. The contract includes a $23,000,000 signing bonus, $70,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $19,083,333 through 2021.
The deal makes Miller the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who recently signed his own deal, will be getting $87 million guaranteed.
The Denver Broncos drafted Von Miller with the second overall pick in 2011 out of Texas A&M. He was named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year after recording 11.5 sacks
In his sophomore season, Miller set the Broncos’ franchise record 18.5 sacks in a single season. The following year, he tore his ACL in the second-to-last game of the season.
Miller returned in dominating fashion, and quickly turned into one of the Broncos biggest leaders on defense.
In three post-season games last season, Von Miller had five sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception. He was subsequently named the Super Bowl MVP.
Miller’s contract will be the fourth Broncos contract worth more than $11 million per season in 2017.
The deal surpasses Philadelphia Eagles lineman Fletcher Cox six-year deal, worth $102,600,000 contract with $63,299,000 guaranteed.
