NFC East: Prediction For Each Team
Washington Redskins: Defense will rank in the top 12 in scoring defense
Washington was 17th in the NFL in 2015 in scoring defense allowing an average of 23.7 points per game. Six games during the season in which the team held opponents to 20 points or less helped pave the way for the team to make a surprising trip to the playoffs as divisional champs.
Washington became unexpected lottery winners during the offseason and the prize was in the form of free agent cornerback Josh Norman, formally of the Carolina Panthers. Adding Norman along with the return of pass rusher Junior Galette, the possible breakout season by strong-side linebacker Preston Smith, and the consistent Ryan Kerrigan, presents a defense that was the definition of a bend-but-don’t-break defense in 2015 but will see improvements in 2016.
Whether or not the unit is the difference between another playoff season or enjoying it on the couch like the rest of us, remains to be seen. However, improvements are expected to be made starting with improving the points allowed per game.
