Tavaris Jackson Situation Creates Opportunity for Trevone Boykin
Seattle Seahawks free agent quarterback Tavaris Jackson’s issues could lead to a second chance for Trevone Boykin
While he is still a free agent, the allegations against former Seahawks quarterback Tavaris Jackson all but eliminates the chance he returns to the Seahawks at any point this season.
Jackson allegedly pointed a loaded gun at his wife and was charged with aggrevated assault with a deadly weapon in Osceola County, Florida on Friday, according to WESH 2 News reporter Chris Hush.
Formerly a second round pick by the Minnesota Vikings out of Alabama State in 2006, Jackson has bounced around the NFL since losing his starting job with the Vikings. He spent five seasons in Minnesota, making only 34 starts and finishing with a 10-10 record. He spent four seasons with Seattle, and was a member of their 2013 Super Bowl team.
Jackson’s wife reportedly told her husband “You better be accurate bc you ain’t accurate on the field,” during the alleged altercations, as the couples’ children slept inside the house.
Hush posted several pictures of the police report on Twitter, and also reported that Jackson is out on bail. Authorities also documented the alleged discovery of marijuana at the property.
This leaves former TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin with the inside track to the Seattle back-up quarterback job. Projected to be a project quarterback who could be drafted out of TCU, Boykin was left without a job following a New Years Eve bar fight two days before TCU’s Alamo Bowl match-up against Oregon.

After allegedly punching a police officer during the altercation, Boykin was charged with assaulting a public servant ( which is a third degree felony), public intoxication and resisting arrest. He was assigned a $5,000 bond, and suspended from what would have been his final collegiate game.
Boykin signed with the Seahawks following the conclusion of the NFL Draft on April 30.
Should Russell Wilson be injured during a game this season, Boykin appears to be the next man up with no veterans present other than Wilson.
Veteran quarterbacks who could possibly be given a look by Pete Carroll’s Seahawks include former starter Matt Flynn, T.J. Yates, Josh Freeman, and the semi-retired Michael Vick.
