Roderick Johnson (OT, Florida State)

The Bears are content to ride out this coming season with former 7th round pick Charles Leno Jr. as their left tackle.  They’ve made no moves to even give him some competition for training.  Either they just didn’t have success in that venture or they truly believe in him.  To be fair he proved better than expected when forced into the lineup last season after veteran Jermon Bushrod went down.  He’s only 24-years old and has the physical tools to play the game.  It’s a question of whether or not he can get better.

If he can’t, then they should be quick to look for an upgrade.  Roderick Johnson could be available to them.  Another Florida State athlete, he is remarkably fluid and nimble for being 6’7″ and over 300 lbs.  His rock solid pass protection would make any quarterback happy and he understands how to use his size and significant power to full advantage in the running game.  There are still parts of his game that need cleaning up, but that’s nothing new with young players.
