Oakland Raiders: Aldon Smith Is In Trouble Again
By Erik Lambert
The Oakland Raiders are still counting on Aldon Smith to be a big part of their 2016 plans. That won’t happen if he doesn’t stop making questionable decisions.
Already boasting a dubious record off the field that includes multiple arrests and suspensions, the last thing the former Pro Bowl pass rusher needs was another setback when he’s trying to make sure he can return on time from his current suspension from the NFL. Expectations are high for him upon returning to once again team with Khalil Mack. The Raiders have their eyes on a playoff run this season and that tandem would be a big key to their push late in the season.
Safe to say that’s in danger according to Comcast Sportsnet.
"“Aldon Smith has two legal issues on his Friday agenda. The Raiders edge rusher will argue a motion to suppress evidence relating to misdemeanor charges of DUI with a prior conviction, hit and run and vandalism from an Aug. 2015 incident that prompted his release from the 49ers.According to a Santa Clara County criminal case index, Smith will also be arraigned on a violation of probation from a prior conviction. It’s uncertain what incident the charge stems from.Smith is serving a calendar-year suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He is eligible for reinstatement in November, and assuming he follows strict guidelines during this suspension.”"
It’s unclear just yet of how this will impact his situation with the NFL. If the courts see fit to punish Smith for this violation, it could be the final backbreaker. The league has given him plenty of chances to get his life in order and he’s squandered them up to this point. It’s such a shame too. He’s only 26-years old and has 53 sacks. He should be right there with J.J. Watt and Von Miller as one of the best pass rushers in the game but his poor decision-making and clear unwillingness to grow up have led to this.

Maybe the NFL will relent on dropping the hammer provided not much comes of this arraignment, but at some point they have to say enough is enough.
