Michael Oher has reportedly signed a three-year contract extension with the Carolina Panthers. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the story on Twitter early Friday morning and revealed the contract is worth $21.6 million.

Michael Oher was drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens, where he started in 80/80 possible games at left and right tackle. He finished second in the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award and won a Super Bowl in Baltimore.

Following the expiration of his rookie contract, Oher signed a four-year contract with the Tennessee Titans worth $20 million, but was released after one year after a poor performance and injuries holding him back.

Carolina took a waiver on Michael Oher and signed him to a two-year contract prior to last season worth $7 million. He started all 16 regular season games at offensive tackle and was ranked by Pro Football Focus as the 30th ranked offensive tackle last season.

The Panthers had one of the best rushing offenses in 2015 and Cam Newton earned an MVP award playing behind Michael Oher. The 30-year-old lineman allowed a career low four sacks and was only penalized three times last season.

“The Blind Side” was nominated for both the Best Picture and Best Leading Actress (Sandra Bullock) after it was released in 2009. Bullock won the Oscar for her role as Oher’s adoptive mother at the 82nd Academy Awards and “The Hurt Locker” won the Best Picture Oscar.
