Chicago Bears: Already A Buzz On Dowell Loggains
By Erik Lambert
One of the biggest questions marks for the Chicago Bears is how they will replace Adam Gase. Is Dowell Loggains the answer?
A definitive idea of figuring that out won’t be known until actual games start being played and people can begin to get a feel for how he is as a play caller, game planner and motivator. However, first impressions can mean a lot too, even during Organized Team Activities. Both the media and Bears players have come away with some interesting impressions of the 35-year old assistant coach.
All of them positive.
Confidence is always a key part of anything in being a coach, and Loggains has reason to feel it. This is his second foray into the job of being an offensive coordinator, so he’s by no means intimidated by the job. On top of that he has a much more stable head coach above him in John Fox and easily the best quarterback he’s had a chance to work with during his time in the NFL in Jay Cutler.

Last time it was hardly the best situation for a young coach to get his spurs. Loggains was promoted to the job midseason by the Tennessee Titans, so clearly it was a mess. He had Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jake Locker as his primary quarterbacks with few weapons of any note at both wide receiver and running back.
Even so he made the most of it. The Titans offense went from 26th to 23rd overall and were the 14th ranked rushing attack in 2013. This despite injuries at quarterback. It’s a sign that Loggains still manages to do his job under adverse circumstances and that experience should only serve to help him with the Chicago Bears. Cutler is a more proven passer. Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White are upgrades over Kendall Wright and Nate Washington. He has the utmost confidence and backing of his head coach and no threats of removal from up top.
A man couldn’t ask for a better opportunity.
