Baltimore Ravens: 2016 NFL Draft Grades
Getting more corners should have been the main objective from the beginning for the Ravens but they got another great value guy in Canady in the sixth round. At 6’1 198lbs, Canady passes the eye test when comparing him to the prototypical corner in the NFL but his play on the field also counters well with the receivers in the AFC north. A fast, long corner who doesn’t mind gambling on routes to make the big play.
When looking at Canady from athletic standpoint, he is one of the best all-around athlete in his position group but he guesses a lot during his reads. What worries me more than anything is the fact the he gives his opponents too much of a cushion down the field and doesn’t keep his speed down field. He was picked on in 2015 by allowing eight touchdowns and he isn’t the most technical corner to watch on film. While countering his negatives, he has experience playing from as a nickel and boundary corner. Unlike most young taller corners, he has great lower body fluidity and moves well with hips in his breaks. When competing at the high point for the ball, he makes a great effort at effecting the receiver.
Canady may not be the prettiest pick for the Ravens but he has the potential to become a great player if taught by the right coaches. The Baltimore Ravens have had a success for draft on paper and it seems that they may have a few future stars but only time may tell whether or not that is true.
