Percy Harvin Announces Retirement from the NFL

One month after he announced he would return for another season, the speedy wide receiver has decided to go a different route. Percy Harvin has informed the Buffalo Bills he will not return for another season and will it hang up for good.

The 27-year old Harvin has battled injuries throughout his NFL career, most notably severe migraines and a hip injury that have kept him out for weeks at a time.

Harvin played in four different uniforms throughout his eight year NFL career. Originally drafted 22nd overall in 2009 by the Vikings, injuries and locker room concerns plagued Harvin often.

He earned approximately $41 million during his career, according to Spotrac.com. He will count for $2 million against the Bill’s cap for this season.

In his rookie year with the Vikings, Harvin won the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and a Pro Bowl invite after scoring six touchdowns and having 790 receiving yards. He also had over 1,000 return yards and two special teams touchdowns that first season in the NFL.

His four years in Minnesota concluded with over 3,300 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns. He also accounted for over 3,100 return yards and five special teams touchdowns.

After Minnesota, Harvin spent two years in Seattle, one with the New York Jets, and one as a member of the Buffalo Bills. He only played 19 games in his final four seasons due to his reoccurring injuries.

He suffered a complete ligament tear in his ankle during the 2012 season and was placed on injured reserve.

In 2013 Harvin tore a hip labrum and missed the final 15 games of the season.

LeSean McCoy is not expected to miss time after an investigation surrounding his involvement in a night club brawl, and Karlos Williams will return for his sophomore season.
