2. San Francisco 49ers (via CLE)

QB. Cal. Jared Goff . 2. player. 42. With Wentz gone, the 49ers can’t afford to take the risk on waiting to see if the other top quarterback falls. Despite their claims that they’re fine with riding it out with Colin Kaepernick, the feel out of San Francisco is that Chip Kelly would love a fresh start at the position. Something he never really got during his stint in Philadelphia. Jared Goff is the best available and so they go get him.

In terms of being ready for the pros, Goff is the most advanced. He shows the kind of poise in the pocket and edge a quarterback needs to handle the speed of the game. He’s got a quick, compact release that can deliver strikes consistently when his mechanics don’t get out of hand. If he’s protected and allowed to survey, he rips defenses apart. No question he could be right at home in that fast break, no-huddle attack Kelly likes to run since it holds a number of similarities to the one that made him a star at Cal.
