Most Chicago Bears fans have known that while he can get somewhat fiery on the field, quarterback Jay Cutler has never really had a reputation for being physical away from it.  According to recent reports, that changed when a disagreement with his backup David Fales over a playbook discussion in December of 2015 led to a brief fist fight in the locker room that was quickly broken up.

"Bears QB Jay Cutler got into physical locker room dispute with backup David Fales following teams’ December loss to Redskins – @RapSheet"

It started when Fales pointed out a mistake Cutler made in reading a route adjustment against the Redskins secondary, resulting in a big missed opportunity.  This criticism occurred in front of several teammates, something Cutler did not appreciate.  He apparently made a derogatory comment about Fales’ mother in retaliation, who in turn demanded he take it back or they would take the argument outside.

The details at this point get fuzzy, but one source claims that Cutler repeated the comment, fueled with a few well-placed expletives.  This drove Fales into a fury.  He turned, reached into his locker and came out brandishing a pair of brass knuckles with the letters “BEAR IT” emblazoned on the front.  Before Cutler could react, the young quarterback delivered a vicious punch to his right side.

At first a brief chant of “Fight!  Fight!  Fight!” broke among those watching before they realized they weren’t in middle school anymore and stepped in to separate the two.  Head coach John Fox, who was not present due to a press conference, demanded utter and total silence on the subject from all who were witness to it at the threat of severe fines.  Even GM Ryan Pace was kept in the dark about it for two weeks.

Of course, if you haven’t figured it out by now, none of this is true at all.  It’s a fabrication to celebrate the glory of April Fools Day (and make you hate us just a little bit).  Still, we here at NFL Mocks hope you at least enjoyed the brief distraction!
