DeMarco Murray Latest to be Traded by Philadelphia Eagles
As the Eagles continue to shed cap space, they may have just moved one of the biggest of them all. Just hours after informing cornerback Byron Maxwell and linebacker Kiko Alonso they would be traded to the Miami Dolphins, Vice President of Football Operations Howie Roseman made another earth shattering move.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, running back DeMarco Murray is being traded to the Tennessee Titans.
The compensation for this deal is not yet known, but it is expected to be in the form of at least one draft pick.
Coming off of a league-leading 1,845 rushing yards with the Dallas Cowboys the year before, Murray signed a large free agent contract with the rival Philadelphia Eagles. Murray was signed by Chip Kelly shortly after LeSean McCoy was traded for Kiko Alonso last offseason. His contract was a five year, $40 million dollar deal with $18 million fully guaranteed at signing.
The leading rusher was expected to dominate in Chip Kelly’s zone-read offense, but struggled running east/west during games. He was best known for running down hill in-between the tackles, something Kelly rarely did with him. Despite Kelly being fired prior to the final game of the season and Doug Pederson coming into the picture, Murray was reportedly still unhappy with the Eagles.
The Titans will be adding an aspect to their offense that they didn’t at all last season. They finished 25th in the league with 1,485 rushing yards after drafting David Cobb out of Minnesota later in the draft. They tried to use a combination of him, Antonio Andrews and Bishop Sankey.
Cobb finished with 146 rushing yards, Andrews had 520, and Sankey had 193.
The Titans have the first overall pick in this years draft and are expected to focus on retooling the offensive line. That would point towards offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil from Ole Miss. If they decide otherwise, Joey Bosa or Jalen Ramsey are considered the top prospects on defense.
The Eagles entered the day already having the most draft picks in this years draft, but could potentially be stocking their cupboard with this afternoon’s trades with Miami and Tennessee.
