Peyton Manning Retires as Best to Ever Play in the NFL
After weeks of speculation, one of the best to ever don the football jersey has decided to hang it up. With two Super Bowl rings on his fingers, number 18 Peyton Manning fittingly rides off into the sunset 18 years after being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts.
The quarterback will officially announce his retirement Monday at a press conference.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen was the first to report Manning’s official retirement this morning.
Manning currently sits as the NFL’s all time leader in both career passing yards (71,940) and passing touchdowns (539). He also is the single season leader in both of those categories.
He’s been selected to 14 Pro Bowls, seven All Pro teams, won Super Bowl XLI with the Colts, Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos, and has led the NFL in passing touchdowns four times in his career.
He holds the record for MVP awards won in a career with five.
All of that comes after he lost an entire season following neck surgery; something that brought extreme jeopardy upon his career.
Manning holds the Indianapolis Colts all time passing yards, passing touchdown, completion percentage, passing completions, and passing attempts records. He’s undoubtedly the greatest quarterback in the franchises long tenured history.
His foe on the football field Tom Brady reached out and offered his congratulations on a great career..
"Congratulations Peyton, on an incredible career. You changed the game forever and made everyone around you better. It’s been an honor.Posted by Tom Brady on Sunday, March 6, 2016"
Executive Vice President of Football Operations/General Manager and former Super Bowl winning quarterback for the Denver Broncos John Elway also sent out his praise for Manning.
Congratulations to one of the greatest football players of all-time on his retirement. The NFL will never be the same.
