Saints QB Drew Brees Facing Season Ending Foot Injury
The New Orleans Saints could once again be with out Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees for their final two games of the season. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Brees suffered a torn plantar fascia in his foot in the Saints 35-27 loss to Detroit Monday night. Brees threw for over 340 yards in the defeat at home.
Despite injuring his foot, Brees became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw for 60,000 yards in a career. He joins Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, and Brett Favre on that elite list of quarterbacks.
As Werder reports, the Saints haven’t made a final decision on Brees’s availability for the final two games of the season and the quarterback is seeking a second opinion.
The injury is reportedly similar to what Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is being treated for.
The 5-9 New Orleans Saints are already out of the playoff hunt, so not playing Brees is certainly an option at this point of the season. Backup quarterback Luke McCown has played in two games this season, including one start early in the year when Brees was previously injured.
Rookie Garrett Grayson is also on the roster, but the third round pick out of Colorado State has not gotten any NFL snaps as he learns his way through the league.
The Saints finish up their season with a home game this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars and a road game in Atlanta against the nose-diving Falcons.
