A tough break for Dallas Cowboys fans, as Tony Romo has broken his collarbone a second time this season

Jerry Jones has spoken, and it’s not good news for Dallas Cowboys fans. Just as their hopes of reclaiming the NFC East revived, quarterback Tony Romo once again went down with a broken collarbone. Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones told 1053TheFan in Dallas that Tony Romo suffered a hairline fracture of that same collarbone in the Cowboys Thanksgiving day loss to the Carolina Panthers at home.

As you can see, Romo rolls over on that shoulder as he takes a sack by veteran linebacker Thomas Davis. This is the second time this season Romo has broken that clavicle, meaning he will be out for the foreseeable future. The injury all but ends not just Tony Romo’s season, but the 2015 campaign of the Dallas Cowboys.

The 35-year old quarterback suffered the same injury in week two of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles, placing him on the bench for the majority of the year. He had just returned last week against Miami, where he threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Before being injured on Thursday Romo had thrown three interceptions and just barely over 100 yards.

Matt Cassel took Romo’s place and threw for 93 yards and touchdown. Cassel came to the Cowboys after Romo’s initial backup Brandon Weeden failed to win a game in his replacement.

A second collarbone injury to a 35-year old quarterback may force Jerry Jones and the Cowboys brass to examine the future at the quarterback position. Perhaps acquiring a young passer this offseason or drafting one late this Spring may be on the table. Remember when Stephen Jones took a Johnny Manziel draft card out of his fathers hands a couple of years ago? Perhaps that dream isn’t over for Jerry.
