Eagles Pull Out OT Win Over Dallas, Back in Division Race
With the cities of Philadelphia and Dallas holding their collective breath, Sam Bradford completes a short pass to Jordan Matthews, who takes it to the house in overtime. The Chip Kelly Eagles are back in business with a 33-24 overtime win against their arch rival Dallas Cowboys on the road.
All of this on Sam Bradford’s birthday no less:
After a slow start from both teams, the intensity of the game hit its peak as both teams went back and forth in the fourth quarter. Eagles rookie linebacker Jordan Hicks returned a 67-yard pick six and a Matt Cassel throw away ended up in the hands of Dez Brant in the back of the endzone. After both teams traded field goals, the Eagles pulled out a big drive and nailed another one through the uprights to make it a 27-24 game.
Dallas was quickly revived by some bad pass interference calls on Byron Maxwell. Kicker Dan Bailey got a lucky bounce off the uprights to send the game into overtime. With their season hanging on a coin toss, the Eagles opted to receive and converted on a big fourth down.
Then, the entire city of Philadelphia erupted in praise:
Sam Bradford finished the game 25/36 with a touchdown and no turnovers. In his return to his old stomping grounds, DeMarco Murray made a huge impact throughout the game, finishing with 161 total yards and a touchdown. A Ryan Mathews scurry also made the difference for the birds of midnight green, helping to pad their score.
While Dallas did have Dez Bryant back again, the injury bug still injured. With Tony Romo still out, the team lost the heart of their defense in Sean Lee. The veteran linebacker reportedly suffered a concussion and did not return to the game.
The Eagles now move to 4-4 and take sole possession of second place in the NFC East behind New York. They will play Miami during a two game home stretch and have their eyes set on two divisional games to end the year.
Dallas falls to 2-6 and holds little chance of reviving their season, even with the imminent return of Tony Romo. The Cowboys will travel to Tampa Bay to take on Jameis Winston, followed by a trip across state to visit the Miami Dolphins.
