Ben Roethlisberger Suffers Foot Injury in Win Against Raiders
During a career game by many of the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive weapons, the catalyst of the Steelers offense went down late. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger appeared to have injured his left foot after being sacked by Aldon Smith in the 4th quarter. Roethlisberger was carried off the field by the Steelers training staff and was immediately carted into the Pittsburgh locker room.
Pittsburgh would win 38-35 on a late field goal by Boswell with seconds left on the clock.
It was later reported he left the stadium to get further evaluation on his foot.
Roethlisberger was in the midst of a career game, throwing for 344 yards and two touchdowns. He passed Johnny Unitas for 15th all time in career passing yards early in the game and later passed Joe Montana for 14th. Montana held the position with 40,551 career passing yards.
The entire game was an offense showdown between Oakland and Pittsburgh. Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown had over two hundred receiving yards and set a career high before the game was over. When Roethlisberger was out, Antonio Brown’s production clearly suffered, so losing him again would be a major hit to the Steelers offense.
Running back DeAngelo Williams stepped in after Le’Veon Bell went down last week with a knee injury and did not disappoint. He rushed for over 140 yards and had two touchdowns on the day. Rookie tight end Jesse James out of Penn State scored his first career touchdown on a pass from Roethlisberger and receiver Martavis Bryant danced his way in for a score as well.
Clearly the potential injury to Ben Roethlisberger would be huge for the Steelers. They just got him back after he went down with a knee sprain and they clearly needed him back. Michael Vick went down with a hamstring injury in his last appearance, leaving Landry Jones as the only other active quarterback on the Steelers roster.
