Johnny Manziel starting on Thursday Night Football

Johnny Manziel is getting his shot to start, again. The last time Manziel stepped onto the field (as a starter) he left with a 28-14 win over the Tennessee Titans. His task will be much taller this week as he faces off against the Cincinnati Bengals in short time.

Manziel came into the league as the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. A player that was highly debated because of his attitude and size, Manziel ended last season on a very poor note by being routed 30-0 by the Bengals and missing team activities due to a reported party the night before. In January Manziel entered rehab for “undisclosed reasoning’s” and has since been relatively quiet, with the exception of an incident from a couple of weeks ago.

A win for number #2 on Thursday night could quiet some of the negative attention and cause consideration for him to be the starting quarterback as McCown has taken a beating this season. Despite playing well, McCown is not the future of the Browns and there are questions on whether Manziel can be as well. Anybody who knows football understands that the Browns aren’t exactly known for their great quarterback selections and the risk of choosing Manziel seemed more like a publicity stunt than a future investment.

In Manziel’s win over Tennesee he only completed 8 passes on only 15 attempts. Those numbers are impressive for a win but won’t get you through an entire NFL season. In order for the Browns to have hope for the future with Manziel they’re going to have to open up the playbook and let him fly. Even if he falls like a duck you’ve got to know what you’re working with and if you’re in need of yet another quarterback in the upcoming draft.

I wish all the luck to Johnny Manziel and to the Browns faithful, with a season that’s started off 2-6 it’s time that a spark is made. Hopefully that spark is Johnny Manziel.
