The first college football playoff poll of the season will be announced tonight, so the NFL Mocks staff decided to predict the top four teams. We also decided to pick the first team out, a position no team ever wants to be in.

Shawn Spencer: 1) Ohio State 2) Clemson 3) LSU 4) TCU

More from College Football

David Holmes: 1) Ohio State 2) Clemson 3) Baylor 4) LSU

Tyler Morales: 1) Ohio State 2) Clemson 3) Baylor 4) LSU

Jonah Tuls: 1) Ohio State 2) Clemson 3) Baylor 4) LSU

Erik Lambert: 1) Ohio State 2) Clemson 3) Baylor 4) MSU

Rodney Stokes: 1) Ohio State 2) Clemson 3) Baylor 4) MSU

George Stockburger: 1) Ohio State 2) Clemson 3) Baylor 4) TCU

Chris Dougherty: 1) Clemson 2) Michigan State 3) Ohio State 4) LSU

An interesting storyline that could arise from the poll is the fact that no SEC team gets in to the playoffs this year. Unless LSU or Alabama step it up at the end of the year, the possibility is very real. A couple of weeks ago, we were looking at two Big Ten and two Big 12 teams making it. Now Clemson is making a case for an ACC team to make it into the race.

Here are our first teams out in the opinion of our staff:

Shawn Spencer: Alabama

David Holmes: Michigan State

Tyler Morales: TCU

Jonah Tuls: Alabama

Erik Lambert: LSU

Rodney Stokes: TCU

George Stockburger: LSU

Chris Dougherty: Baylor

A rides on certain people in these programs. Cardale Jones needs to perform when JT Barrett is out due to suspension as Ohio State tries to finish down the stretch. Baylors freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham needs to step up big time to replace the injured Seth Russell. Leonard Fournette will need to continue to carry LSU into the playoff hunt. So much can change in this poll from now to when the final choices are made at the end of the season.

Stay tuned to NFL Mocks for when the NCAA Selection Committee’s poll becomes official later tonight.
