Dallas Cowboys: Our Predictions For Win Total … Not Pretty

Easier this week, I asked several members of our staff to make their predictions on how many wins the Dallas Cowboys will end with in the 2015 season. With injuries piling up in the NFC East, the team is still technically in the mix. But can they make the playoffs?

Let’s just say our staff isn’t so convinced.

Erik Lambert: 7 wins

"I say 7-9. This team still has talent but not in the right places to win enough games to stay alive. I imagine once Romo gets back they’ll run the table the rest of the way but by then it will be too late. They no longer have the running game they did a year ago and Matt Cassel is hardly an improvement over Brandon Weeden."

Sayre Bedinger: 6 or 7 wins

"I think the Cowboys will wind up with 6 or 7 wins unless Tony Romo can get back quicker than expected. This is a good roster, good enough to contend in the NFC East, but they are so banged up and it’s unfortunate for them. As it stands, it’s going to be tough for them to win with the current situation at QB and running backs dropping left and right."

Shawn Spencer: 9 wins

"I’ll go 9-7. They have enough talent to win, they just have to stop feeling sorry for themselves and play football. Dez will be back soon and that should help Cassel. They still get to beat up on the AFC East and the Buccaneers, so winning half their division games puts them right in the playoff picture."

Shawn is a bit more optimistic than myself and our two editors, and there’s good reason for that. The schedule isn’t treacherous and talent still exists.

However — counterpoint alert — with Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden taking command, it’s hard to for me to project any win on the upcoming schedule. The NFL provides little “cupcakes” on a week to week basis, even late in the season. In this league, you’re as good as your quarterback will let you be.

Let’s see how much Cassel and/or Weeden can provide.
