Stanford Receiver Makes Catch of the Year While We Slept
While most college football fans were nestled away and fast asleep, a showdown between two ranked California teams was underway. No. 15 Stanford held its own against quarterback Josh Rosen and No. 18 UCLA in a 56-35 blowout .
Stanford Running Back Christian McCaffery went on a rampage against the UCLA defense. He rushed for over 250 yards and crossed into the end zone four times. This game placed him fourth in the country in rushing yards (844) and first in all-purpose yards with 1,518.
Although, the play we all missed will probably be a focal point on the SportsCenter Top 10 for an extended period of time. Stanford wide receiver Francis Owusu only had one catch in this game, but it’s one he certainly won’t forget.
Wow. I don’t even know how he could see the ball with freshman Jaleel Wadood in his face. The 41-yard catch by Owusu was only his seventh catch of the season, so he certainly made it count. it put Stanford up by 25 in the third quarter.

Stanford’s quarterback Kevin Hogan finished with only 15 pass attempts, but he completed 8 of those. He had three passing touchdowns and an interception. Stanford clearly relied on their run game once again against Jim Mora’s dynamic UCLA team.
Freshman sensation Josh Rosen has fallen somewhat from the pedestal fans placed him after week one. Two interceptions, including a pick-six, made a big difference in this game. While he still threw for over 300 yards, he obviously still has things to work on before he’s pronounced the number one overall pick in three years. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but that’s what people were doing.
UCLA drops to 4-2 with their playoff chances all but gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if they fell into the bottom five of the AP poll rankings, or even fall completely off. They will face Jared Goff and Cal next Thursday night at home.
Stanford moves to 5-1 and first in the PAC-12 North over Cal, Washington, and Oregon. They will be featured as ESPN’s primary late-night game next Saturday against Washington at home.
