The Seattle Seahawks have indefinitely suspended fullback Derrick Coleman pending a local police investigation. Coleman is a suspect in a hit and run incident that occurred Wednesday evening in which a driver hit a vehicle and fled the scene. He has been arrested for vehicular assault and hit and run and is currently being held without bail.

The police report from the incident reads that a Honda Civic was hit around 6 pm by a Dodge pickup truck, supposedly owned by Coleman. The driver of the Civic may have suffered a broken collarbone according to the police report, but never received attention from the driver of the pickup. The report alleges that Coleman walked away from the scene unhurt, but was later found by police. He was taken into custody without incident.

A field-sobriety test was performed, but the results of that were not released. Since joining the Seahawks in 2013, Coleman has played in 22 game with limited starts. He missed significant time last season after suffering a broken foot towards the end of the season. Coleman’s known predominately by NFL fans as being a role model for the hearing-impaired community. Coleman has been deaf since he was three, and plays with hearing aids.

He has routinely been core member of the Seahawks special teams squad and as a key blocker for a run-heavy Seahawks team. Coleman was also a member of the Seahawks Super Bowl XLVIII team and helped them return to the championship game last season against the Patriots.

Derrick Coleman is innocent of any crimes until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Seahawks will play the Carolina Panthers Sunday afternoon at home in an attempt to hit the .500 mark in the standings.
