Chiefs Jamaal Charles Suffers Major Knee Injury

The Kansas City Chiefs have appeared to lose running back Jamaal Charles for the foreseeable future. The veteran running back suffered a non-contact knee injury during the Chiefs 18-17 loss to the Chicago Bears. Charles would not return to the game. Initial reports are that Charles tore his ACL, but the final MRI results haven’t been announced.

Head Coach Andy Reid all but confirmed the worst for Charles. He said the preliminary tests suggest a torn ACL, but they will wait for the MRI before they rule him out for the rest of the season.

Losing Jamaal Charles would certainly be a major hit to the 1-4 Chiefs. Considering they have a tough time getting the ball to their receivers in the redzone, this injury is even graver than it would be in any other situation. The team, as most Kansas City fans know, went all last year without getting a touchdown to a wide receiver. Former Philadelphia Eagle wide receiver Jeremy Maclin broke that curse earlier this season with a short redzone catch.

Charcandrick West picked up the bulk of Charles’s carries, finishing with 12 carries for 58 yards. Knile Davis finished with only two carries for two yards. Former Oregon Duck De’Anthony Thomas finished with the team’s only touchdown, but from the wide receiver position.

The Chiefs will move on next week with a trip to Minnesota next week, followed by a two game homestead. They currently sit in last place of the AFC West at 1-4 after losing to the Chicago Bears.
