Game Preview: #3 Ole Miss vs #25 Florida Gators

The Ole Miss Rebels (4-0) take on the newest addition of the top 25 in the Florida Gators (4-0). The game is set for 7pm eastern time in Gainesville.

Here are some of the players to watch for heading into this ranked match-up on Saturday night.

Chad Kelly, QB

Chad Kelly is the obvious headline player going into this game who has amassed 1200 yards passing and 10 TDs already through 4 games. He’s also added 3 rushing scores and will look to lead the Rebels to victory Saturday night. He’ll be looking to “bounce back” after a more human like performance against Vanderbilt last week in which he threw 2 interceptions. In his previous 3 contests, including Alabama, Kelly was responsible for at least 3 touchdowns in each game.

Trae Elston, S

Elston leads the team with 3 interceptions, 2 of which have been returned for touchdowns. With Will Griers passing percentage sitting under 60% in his past 3 games and throwing an interception in each of them I expect Elston to find 1 or 2 passes.

Vernon Hargreaves, CB

The best football player on Jim McElwains roster will look to disrupt the flow of the #3 team in the country. Hargreaves has 2 interceptions this year and looks to put on a show against one of the nation’s top receivers in Laquon Treadwell. Hargreaves hasn’t been targeted too often this year but I expect that to change Saturday evening.

Keys to Victory:

Ole Miss has enjoyed the luxury of holding opponents to 3 points in the first quarter which is an incredible stat through 4 games and for playing Alabama. However they’ve allowed 74 points in the next 3 quarters. For Ole Miss if they can keep their defense stout for the entire game and win the turnover battle there’s no doubt they can walk away with a win.

More from College Football

Florida is going to end up relying on Quarterback Will Grier to have a great game which so far this season he’s been.. well.. serviceable. For Florida to overcome the Ole Miss defense Grier is gonna have to get going and he’s going to need help from his running game as well as the defense. The defense should provide Grier a few opportunities to take control of the game but if the offense can’t capitalize it’s going to be a long afternoon in Gainesville.

Prediction: Ole Miss 38 Florida 17

The crystal ball tells me 38-17 is the final score and that’s only because of the Florida defense. The offense has looked anemic and I don’t see Grier putting up huge numbers against a strong Ole Miss football team. To be honest Florida’s lucky to be 4-0 and in the top 25 but I don’t find them giving the Rebels any trouble this weekend.
