Hurricane Joaquin Could Force Eagles/Redskins Postponement
With Hurricane Joaquin forming in the Atlantic Ocean, the NFL is being forced to consider alternate option for if the storm hits land. The game getting the most concern from the league is the Philadelphia Eagles at the Washington Redskins. Jason La Canfora is reporting that the league could possibly postpone the inter-divisional matchup to week eight. Both teams have a scheduled bye week at that time, which could provide an easy solution.
Another possible option would be to move the game to a different city. Pittsburgh plays on Thursday Night Football, so the stadium would be vacant for Sunday afternoon. It’s relatively close for both fan bases as well. Other Regional cities with no home games and out of the storms reach could be Cleveland or Detroit.
Possible landfall by this storm could come as early as Thursday night to the DC area. The possibility of storm damage and the accessibility and safety of fans are of course on the leagues mind.
Here are two of the latest charts from the Weather Channel regarding the storms potential path. The storm is reportedly a Category 3 at the moment, but could be downgraded to a Category 2 by the time it reaches land.

An early bye week would be beneficial to both the Eagles and Redskins if Hurricane Joaquin does force postponement. The Eagles could get key players such as DeMarco Murray, Cedric Thornton and Kiko Alonso healthy, as well as giving Sam Bradford more time to get his timing down. The Redskins could also use the time to get wide receiver DeSean Jackson ready after a week one hamstring injury.
