Cowboys Expect to Lose Romo 8-10 Weeks with Broken Clavicle
Once again, the Cowboys will be without starting quarterback Tony Romo. Dallas doesn’t expect to have Romo back for at least two months after the quarterback broke his left collarbone. Romo suffered the injury after being strip-sacked in the victory by a rush of Eagles defenders. The team confirmed the diagnosis and made the news official during the game. Romo suffered the exact same injury to that clavicle earlier in his NFL career.
Former Browns first round pick Brandon Weeden stepped in for Romo and went seven for seven with a touchdown. This is Weeden’s second year with the team, and he has had experience in the system. He played in five games (starting in one) for the Cowboys last season when Romo was dealing with a back injury
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could be seen fairly upset in his box. He used a somewhat strange analogy to explain how he felt when he got the news.
Oh my. Well that’s a new one.
With Romo’s diagnosis, the Cowboys must go forward for the next eight to ten weeks. They’ve already lost their star receiver Dez Bryant to a broken foot for a similar, if not longer, time period. In the next ten weeks, the Cowboys will face divisional opponents Philadelphia and New York. Out of division opponents include Atlanta, New Orleans, New England, and Seattle. Not the best group to face without your quarterback, as three of their up-coming opponents carry an undefeated record (New England, Seattle, Atlanta).
A bye week in the middle of their schedule (week six) will surely benefit a team already plagued by injury.
The Cowboy’s defense held its own Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia. On the offensive side, they had some trouble generating a steady running game. Jason Witten continued to be their security blanket, catching seven passes for 56 yards.
Dallas will travel to Atlanta next week to take-on the undefeated Atlanta Falcons in a one o’clock game.
