Johnny Manziel had no help from anemic run game
It’s easy to bash Johnny Manziel for struggling but lets keep some perspective here. He wasn’t supposed to play at all but got thrust onto the field after Josh McCown got hurt. He got spotty protection from his offensive and had to throw against a secondary that includes Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie.
The Cleveland Browns did very little to help him, particularly in the ground game. Manziel was the leading rusher with 35 yards. The second one on that list? McCown with 23. The leading running back on the day was Duke Johnson who managed a meager 22 yards on seven carries.
Manziel is not a miracle worker. Like any quarterback he needs help. Until that happens, the Browns will remain who they are.
