College football fans were treated to an eventful first week of action that featured thrills, highlights, drama and plenty of upsets.  One of those expected to happen was Virginia Tech trying to upend defending champion Ohio State on national TV.  It looked like a serious possibility after a erasing a 14-0 deficit to claim a 17-14 lead at halftime.

Sadly things unraveled for them in the second half as they lost quarterback Michael Brewer to a broken collarbone.  To that point he had 156 yards passing with two touchdowns.  The Buckeyes took advantage of the good fortune to turn the game into a runaway as the Hokie offense failed to adjust.

Watching the game and seeing the impact of quarterback Cardale Jones and former quarterback Braxton Miller, both of whom played well for OSU, Chicago Bears wide receiver Eddie Royal impulsively tweeted this.

It didn’t take long at all for him to delete the post.  What would people automatically think upon reading it?  Obviously that he was yet another receiver taking a shot at Bear quarterback Jay Cutler.  He wasn’t wrong.

The truth though is not nearly so controversial.  Turns out Royal built his football career at Virginia Tech, during which time he posted 2,004 yards from scrimmage, over 2,600 return yards and 17 touchdowns.  That made him the first round draft pick of the Denver Broncos in 2008 where he and Cutler initially became teammates.

Since he arrived in Chicago, Royal has made his support and love of Cutler clear.  It would make little sense for him to have turned a complete 180 right before the regular season, especially since the 32-year old quarterback has played rather well in preseason.  Chalk this up to a slight misjudgment on an impulse tweet.
