Tim Tebow shines in Philadelphia Eagles preseason finale

If Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles were looking for a good reason to keep Tim Tebow on the final roster, they got it in the final preseason game.

Tebow wasn’t perfect, but it was probably his best performance as a member of the Eagles thus far. He made some really nice throws in this game, and also showed some vintage Tebow with his escape-ability and running prowess. This guy is simply a good football player.

While many wanted to write the Tebow signing off early on as another ‘arm’ while Sam Bradford continued his recovery or another gimmick by Chip Kelly, I think a lot of people have been shut up this preseason that Tebow is definitely capable of playing in this league.

Now, this was in the pre-season against backups. We all understand that, and we’re not denying it. However, Tebow has made clear improvements from his first couple of games with Philadelphia. He finished with an average-below average 58 percent completion percentage, and wound up completing 21-of-36 passes overall this preseason. He finished the preseason with two passing touchdowns and a third on the ground rushing.

The Eagles know what they are getting in Tebow, which is a leader and a player that can help them win games this year. This is not a move for the future, it’s a move for right now. Matt Barkley was out-played by Tebow in the preseason, and Philadelphia looks like it made a wise investment.

Though the Eagles signed DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews, Tebow can perhaps be one of the most valuable additions they made this offseason as a contributor in the running game. He not only is going to be a weapon on two-point conversions as everyone has discussed at length, but he has a chance to be a dominant goal line quarterback with the option of running or throwing.

Fantasy owners might hate it when Tebow comes into the game, but Chip Kelly has never cared about your fantasy team.

Hopefully this final game will have cemented Tebow’s status as a member of the 53-man roster in Philadelphia. He certainly looks like he’s ascending and ready to be back in the NFL making contributions to a playoff caliber team.
