Vernon Adams (QB – Oregon) vs. Eastern Washington

After practicing for just two weeks with the program, Oregon named Vernon Adams the starting QB. Despite the lack of practice, the announcement didn’t come as a surprise due to the Ducks’ style of play. Adams is much more of a dual threat than Jeff Lockie, who he beat out for the job.

Adams was supposed to enroll at Oregon back in the spring, but he was forced to remain at Eastern Washington to finish a math class. What makes the story even more convoluted is the fact that Oregon opens up the season this Saturday against Eastern Washington.

The lack of reps will almost certainly lead to Adams being a little rusty, but he must find his rhythm quickly. With a road game against Michigan State next week, he needs to build confidence heading into the showdown between teams ranked in the top 10.

The end result of this game is not in question, but the readiness of Adams is. Although his opponent this week is from a lower division, they are very familiar with what he can and can’t do on the football field. The Marcus Mariota era is over in Eugene. It’s Adams’ team and he has less than eight months to prove he’s worth a pick in the draft.
