Green Bay Packers: UDFA Ladarius Gunter having big preseason

When opportunity knocks, you have to answer the door quickly, or you might miss it. For Green Bay Packers undrafted rookie Ladarius Gunter, it appears as though he has welcomed opportunity in for an extended stay.

That could mean a spot on the Packers’ 53-man roster, one of the best rosters in the NFL today.

Gunter is having a fantastic preseason for the Packers so far, grading out as the highest rated cornerback in football from Pro Football Focus, and putting together some great work at the CB position with 4 PBU and an interception.

Gunter is playing a lot of snaps, and forcing the Packers’ coaching staff to take notice. He was incredibly productive in the Packers’ last preseason game, prompting some pretty positive response from Twitter…

Gunter is providing the Packers with something no one saw coming from his days at Miami. As a Hurricane, he had 28 tackles, 2 interceptions, and 6 passes broken up in his senior season. As a junior, he had 46 tackles, 3 interceptions, and 9 passes broken up. Over the course of the last two years, those are really solid numbers, but nothing that stood out enough to coaches and scouts to make Gunter a draftable player.

With that said, Gunter has phenomenal size and excellent playmaking ability that have led to a roaring start this preseason, another victory for the Packers’ front office, and perhaps a dark horse 53-man roster candidate that has Packers fans and reporters buzzing right now. If he keeps making plays like this, we might be seeing a lot more of him this season than anyone could have expected…
