Andy Dalton remains at the mercy of those around him
The best quarterbacks in the NFL are ones who dictate the action and can change games based on how they can elevate players around them. Since he was drafted back in 2011, that has been the knock on Andy Dalton. For all his good leadership, intelligence and competitive qualities he lacks that ability to take his game up a notch when he teammates might not be feeling it that day. It’s why he remains so inconsistent. One week he’ll look flawless and in command, the next he’s completely erratic and careless with the ball.
Just look at the preseason numbers and it’s more of the same. Week 1: 3-of-3 for 31 yards and a touchdown. Week 2: 6-of-13 for 46 yards and two interceptions. If winning a playoff game is their goal, then the Bengals have to seriously consider whether or not they have a good enough team to win in spite of Dalton. If a shred of doubt enters their minds, then it’s time to make a switch.
