Zach Mettenberger shows starting mentality in spite of Mariota
There is no doubt that the Tennessee Titans are going to ride it out with Marcus Mariota as their starter moving forward. It’s an understandable choice. He’s the #2 overall pick and it eliminates any ideas of a quarterback controversy, which can often cause distractions. However, that hasn’t stopped second-year man Zach Mettenberger from playing like that job belongs to him. One of the hallmark traits teams look for in a starting quarterback is competitiveness.
Even knowing he has no chance to start, the former 6th round pick has played in the preseason with the kind of poise that signals he can and should (220 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT). This could create quite the dilemma for the Titans in terms of whether or not they should consider trading him while his stock is high.
