Alex Smith won’t ever stop being himself
The addition of Jeremy Maclin to the receiving corps is going to help the Kansas City Chiefs passing game. That much can be trusted. However, anybody expecting that addition to suddenly turn quarterback Alex Smith into a prominent passer aren’t trusting their eyes. Smith is a tough, smart and athletic quarterback who is a maestro when it comes to managing the offense and protecting the football. When it comes to moving his team through the air though? Sorry, no dice.
Don’t forget his best season as a pro was just over 3,300 yards and 23 touchdowns through the air. That was enough for Pro Bowl honors but it’s proof positive that Smith won’t ever be the chuck-it-downfield type of quarterback most playoff teams have.
