Heaney played a major role in the Kansas defense during his time with the Jayhawks, providing stability and athleticism in the middle of the defense. With the Raiders, his initial addition as depth help might morph into a significant role once the regular season rolls around.

He surely performed well in game one; with a few more dominant outings against stronger and stronger competition, it’s not far-fetched that he could be a key rotational linebacker once Week One kicks off.

The first-team linebacking corps is no sure thing in the middle. Curtis Lofton is a very solid player, but there’s a quick void in the middle behind him. With an opportunity to get valuable reps in the next three games, Heeney could find himself playing a major role quicker than expected.
