When looking to fan bases who are starving for successful seasons in 2015, checking in with the Oakland Raiders might be a nice start. The puzzle is beginning to look complete, and with a few rookie standouts able to contribute in 2015, Oakland might just reach “threat level” in the very near future.
With Derek Carr — hopefully — able to control the offense under center, the Raiders are in a prime spot to surprise folks around the league.
It’ll take balance and some luck along the way — not to mention performances from some of the key young guys who will look to carry the squad in a big way over the next few years.
This pre-season, keep tabs on the rookies and their progression. While Saturday will just be their second ever NFL game, each one of these exhibitions can be telling regarding growth and potential production for the season.
Without further ado, here’s the top five rookies to watch as we inch closer to the start of the regular season.
Amari Cooper, WR
How could we start a Raiders rookie post without mentioning Amari Cooper’s name?
The national media is already labeling him one of the best young receivers in the game. In reality, he doesn’t need to be even close to that for Oakland this season. A stable, productive presence on the outside will do just fine towards the success of the Raiders offense this year.
If he makes plays like the one above all year, Odell Beckham Jr. may have to step his game up a bit to keep his name in the news.
For these final three exhibition games, Cooper doesn’t have to flash at all. A healthy, steady dose of plays without error will do just fine. If he paces his year, production is bound to come with the skill set he possesses.
