The final day of the first week of NFL preseason action is set to commence. Story lines continue to roll in, many of them with long-term outlooks on both the seasons and years to come. Which are the ones that fans should tune in for?
Vikings a great first test for Jameis Winston
There are few defensive minds in the NFL better and more respected than Mike Zimmer. So he represents a tough test for any quarterback, let alone a rookie. That is what #1 overall pick Jameis Winston prepares for. Not only do the Minnesota Vikings have some live experience courtesy of the Hall of Fame game, but their defense is significantly more talented than it was last season.
Winston has plenty of talent but in order to take the next step towards being ready for what awaits him in a month, he needs reps in real games. Facing an opponent that is well-prepared and more seasoned than he is when the score doesn’t count is a perfect learning opportunity. Tampa Bay fans can only hope he doesn’t look worse than Marcus Mariota did.
