Houston Texans: Hard Knocks draws rave reviews after opening night
The Houston Texans are this year’s subject of the HBO hit show Hard Knocks which somehow apparently struggles to find a team every year. On the surface, it doesn’t appear as though Bill O’Brien’s Texans are the most intriguing team in the league for the show to find, but prior to watching last night’s episode, anything would have been better than what we saw last from the Atlanta Falcons…
The Texans, as it turns out, are riveting. O’Brien leading the way, this Texans group is full of personalities that spark an interest from viewers, none more so than the great J.J. Watt.
The show documented a day in which Watt showed off his remarkable dedication, working well into the night and not leaving the practice field until after 10 PM. Watt stayed around after his additional workouts — some technique stuff, catching one-handed passes off a jugs machine, some running, you know, normal defensive lineman stuff — to sign autographs or take pictures with pretty much every fan there.
Watt is an absolute animal. Viewers were also privy to Watt flipping a 1,000 pound tire.
It’s such an impressive display of work ethic, you get the idea that the show might have been having Watt do it for, well, show. That being said, I would never question Watt’s work ethic, which has always been phenomenal. This is the best player in football for a reason, and it doesn’t simply happen off of 100 percent natural talent. Watt puts in the work, and we get to see a glimpse of that on the show.
Perhaps the greatest star of the show is head coach Bill O’Brien, who is dropping F-bombs all over the place and proclaiming his love for Rick Ross.
Not my cup of tea, but don’t kill me for it.
The fire and personality of BOB is going to captivate fans throughout this season and probably create a new little fan base for the Houston Texans. Getting this kind of inside access to a team would seem to make them more ‘likable’ in a way, and I think that is going to happen this year with the Texans.
From Vince Wilfork to the battle at quarterback, this is going to be a fun season of Hard Knocks.
