What AFC East Team can Knock off the Patriots?

Today, the NFL Mocks crew gets together to examine which AFC East team has the most legitimate chance to knock off the New England Patriots for the division crown.

With Tom Brady’s suspension in question, it’s anyone’s guess who may top the eastern division.

To start things off, our Erik Lambert has some high praise for the team that appears to be the top dog in this race — the Miami Dolphins.

"The most complete team in the AFC East is no longer the Patriots. That is the Miami Dolphins. They have talent everywhere. Ndamukong Suh is going to fortify that defensive front and you have Brent Grimes on the back end. Ryan Tannehill gets better every year and his arsenal of weapons is deep with the arrivals of DeVante Parker and Kenny Stills. This team has no reason to fear New England."

There’s obvious legitimacy on the team’s depth chart.

Not only his Tannehill set to have the best year of his young career; the Dolphins did a whole lot to improve the group around him. A better defense and an increase in weapons should see a campaign that inches towards a playoff berth fairly quickly.

As for our Chris Dougherty, he’s placing his faith in Rex Ryan.

"The Bills have added a coach who knows the division and have improved on what was already a phenomenal defense. And added even more playmakers on top of Sammy Watkins. With a solid game-managing QB, the Bills will be a serious challenge in the AFC."

Certainly a bit of an “against the grain” take, but you can’t blame Chris.

Ultimately — Buffalo has a great roster. But what happens under center?

Another hot take comes from our Jonah Tuls, who gives some hope to Gang Green fans across the nation.

"Do not be surprised if the Jets take a big step forward in their first year under Todd Bowles. Geno Smith finally has the weapons in his arsenal to make a push this season. Not to mention, their defense was boosted to top 5 status with the offseason acquisitions of Antonio Cromartie and Darrelle Revis. Overall, they are my dark-horse."

If anything should be noted here more than anything, it’s the improved secondary play. Not a bad take from Mr. Tuls here, but that offense has proven to be littered with issues.

Coming full circle, it’s Matthew Holowiak with the Miami Dolphins.

"I’m picking the Dolphins here. This team is becoming very solidified in every position, and even small moves like drafting Jay Ajayi as a compliment to Lamar Miller shows where this team is heading, towards a division title! Yes I said it, the chips are falling into place, the planets have aligned, and hell has finally frozen over but the Dolphins will win the division!"

Bold takes? That’s what we like here at NFL Mocks.
