NFL Power Rankings: The Greatest Plays Of All-Time

#27: Tony Dorsett 99-Yard Run
There have been plenty of 99-yard pass plays in the history of the NFL, but to date only one 99-yard run. That honor belongs to Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame back Tony Dorsett. Fittingly it took place on national television of Monday Night Football for the world to see.
Dorsett was in his prime and this play encapsulated everything that made him great. There was the vision to see the hole, the strength to shed the tackle attempts but most importantly his uncanny acceleration to get through before the defense could react quickly enough.
Then it was all about speed and some help from blockers downfield. Coaches would see this play as a text book explanation for how to turn a nine-yard run into a 99-yard run. Most agree it’s unlikely another back will ever come close to this feat.
